The CFM PrinterThe Continuous Flow Microspotter (CFM) prints biomolecules by cycling the samples over spot surfaces and capturing them from solution. Benefits of printing with flow include enhanced concentration from dilute solutions, selective capture directly from crude media, the performance of multi-step assays on a spot by delivering multiple reagents in sequence, and the printing of sensitive molecules because they do not dry out within the enclosed microchannel network. The CFM uses a network of microchannels to print 48 samples at one time in a 4 x 12 block. Automated fluid handling and positioning systems enable printing of 96 spots on a single sensorchip within the image area of the IBIS MX96 system. A special slider is used to exchange between both instruments for repeated and aligned printing. The CFM has been used to print a wide variety of biomolecules including DNA, proteins, antibodies, lipids, sugars and cells in array formats that work well with both labeled and label free imaging instruments. When used with label free SPR imaging technologies, CFM printed arrays routinely demonstrate higher sensitivity and lower variation in end point and kinetic data when compared to other microarray printing methods. ![]() | ||
